Hi! You want to know what are the Cebuano or Visayan terms of different animals? Here's the list of common animals and their local names.


  1. Dog - Iro (pronounced as e-ro!) ; Puppy - Itoy (pronounced as e-toy)
  2. Cat - Iring (pronounced as e-ring) ; Kitten- gamay na iring or miming (me-ming)
  3. Fish - Isda (pronounced as is-da!)
  4. Butterfly - Alibangbang 
  5. Dragonfly - Alindanaw
  6. Cow - Baka
  7. Pig - Baboy ;   Piglet- Baktin
  8. Goat - Kanding
  9. Caterpillar - Ulod (pronounced as oo-lod)
  10. Earthworm - Wati
  11. Mosquito - Lamok
  12. Bird - Langgam 
  13. Ant - Alamigas
  14. Black Ant - Atitud

This is my iring named "tobol" which means constipated in english.
